City Bænken
In connection with Nanna Ditzel’s 100th anniversary, the City Bench is being relaunched in a very special limited edition in a unique color combination.

The anniversary bench consists of three colors, carefully selected by Nanna Ditzel:

Pink, yellow, and orange.

The garden bench was developed and created in collaboration with the Danish designer, Nanna Ditzel, in 1997. She is considered one of Scandinavia’s foremost and most innovative designers. Nanna has designed a series of indoor furniture. This iconic City Bænk is the only outdoor cast iron bench created by Nanna Ditzel.

The City Bench was created based on Nanna Ditzel’s thoughts and idea of creating her own quiet universe. She herself described it as: “The bench is thought of as a closed space and should serve as a frame around those sitting on it.” This frame is particularly evident in the high backrest and the beautiful pattern by the armrests. A shape she was inspired by during her trips to Japan.

Nanna Ditzel combined a solid craftsmanship approach with artistic and cultural inspiration. This way, she created unique and universal design icons. When one experiences Ditzel’s designs and senses the connection between craftsmanship and inspiration, one understands that innovation doesn’t arise by mindlessly repeating what is known, but when curiously letting oneself be inspired to challenge the existing from diverse and surprising sources. The exhibition celebrates that Nanna Ditzel in 2023 would have turned 100 and will be the most comprehensive exhibition about her to date. It tells the story of how one can unfold and develop if one is in touch with the inspiration offered by art, culture, nature, and everyday life. At the exhibition, you will encounter several of our benches. Right at the entrance, you might get the chance to sit on Denmark’s most iconic garden bench.
“What is thought right must be done right”
The original color composition is recreated in this elegant garden bench. The bench was originally produced in these colors for the solo exhibition ‘Byens Rum’ at the Art and Culture House – Æglageret in Holbæk in 2003 and for the solo exhibition at the Danish Design Center, Copenhagen in 2005.
